Cloud 9 Reigns over the NA LCS

Celebrating their win beneath a shower of glittering confetti, Cloud 9 looked happy. Not ecstatic. Not Overjoyed. Just...happy. Because long before the third game of their NA Championship series vs TSM ended, they knew they had it in the bag. The raucous jubilation that usually comes with a hard fought victory will have to wait for the teams in relegation. Having eyed the throne all season with an assortment of swords and poisons in their bags, Cloud 9 quietly disposed of all fake kings and seized the NA Kingdom, undaunted by the chants of the masses - and now, all TSM fans can do is bow to them and recognize their serfdom.

Grats Cloud 9...and hail to the kings, baby!

EU LCS FINALS PREDICTION

EU LCS Finals Prediction by Jeremy “Ne0 Jets” Heimann

Fnatic (17-11) vs SK Gaming (18-10)
Season series won 3-1 by SK Gaming

Fnatic is LCS Royalty. Winners of both the Spring and Summer Playoffs in 2013 and close runners-up at IEM Katowice 2014, Fnatic started the split going 7-0 and looked like the team to beat. Then they lost eight in a row and their place among the top contenders was in serious jeopardy. The team was able to recover and finished strong with a  record of 10-3 coming down the stretch. The team is very experienced in the playoffs save for Rekkles, the boy wonder.
Rekkles, at the age of 16, was a huge part of Fnatic defeating CLG EU and winning Winter Dreamhack 2012. Rekkles is fearless out on the rift  - making plays that are usually setup by his support Yellowstar. The bottom lane combo has been deadly this season. Former ADC Yellowstar knows the ins and outs of the role and has great  synergy with Rekkles. Mid lane doesn't require much introduction. It is Fnatic's own Xpeke, famous for his back door Kassadin play. He doesn't run teleport mid much anymore, but teams still strive or fail based on how the center of  the map is going. Xpeke led the whole of EU LCS in kills this split with 125 total kills. Patch 4.5 hasn’t been so kind to Xpeke having his most played champion Gragas nerfed hard. Champions I see him aiming to get in champ select are Leblanc, Nidalee and Orianna.
Top lane Soaz has one of the deeper champion pools and he isn't afraid of anyone. He does his job time and again. His top lane Lulu came up huge in the semifinals and he isn't scared to play anything top. He also likes playing Trundle against tanky tops so whatever Freddy122 comes up with he will have an answer for. In the jungle is Cyanide. He has a lot of games on Elise this season. He also plays Lee Sin and Vi. I don’t expect any target bans thrown his way. He has been a very solid jungler for some time, but he needs to be a play maker more.

SK Gaming wasn't expected to finish at the top of the spring season. Many predicted them to be near the bottom of the league. They were also pushed to their limits during regulations by Supa Hot Crew. N-rated has been on fire lately in the support role - setting up most of what SK does in lane and in team fights. SK is team-oriented, living or dying with what the team does as a whole and not individually. A weakness I could see is in mid lane, Jesiz. Twelve of his eighteen wins are on three champs: Ziggs, Nidalee and Orianna. He has tried to learn new champs such as LeBlanc, but has had mixed results when he is forced off his comfort picks. A strategy could be to ban those three champs and force him onto something he isn't comfortable with.
Freddy122 has been a beast with the tanky top meta. He has an impressive five out of five wins on Trundle. Svenskeren has impressive win rates with Eve, Pantheon and Elise. With the recent Pantheon nerfs, I don’t see him looking that way. Eve and Elise will be high priority. I don’t think he would care which one he got as long as it was one of the two. Candypanda’s Vayne gets banned out a lot, but he has nearly identical win rates on Lucian and Jinx. He laughs at the Vayne bans because it does not hurt him or his team at all.

Prediction: Fnatic wins a close series 3-2. Experience in the playoffs will tilt the series.

EU LCS W8D1 Tue, Mar. 4 | SUPER WEEK!

Today's Matches:

1. Copenhagen Wolves vs Fnatic
2. ROCCAT vs Gambit Gaming
3. SK Gaming vs Millenium
4. Supa Hot Crew vs Alliance
5. ROCCAT vs Millenium

How the hell did I not realize it was Superweek? Although, I knew it was Superweek...I just didn't realize it started Today..but I should have realized it..because that's..sort of ..my job, but okay...I'll just pretend I had this posted all day. *feeble smile*  :)

1. The Wolves are hot and they're looking to capitalize on Fnatic's rough patch, but who DESTROYED Gambit last week? Should be a great match..betting we see close to a 50/50 split on viewer votes for this one. I'm thinkin' Wolves today.

2. ROCCAT <3 <3 <3 Who..are these Russian guys they're playing?

3. This should be SK's game.

4. I think Alliance will upset SHC today. Call it intuition. :)

5. Bye Millenium...sorry. :/ Go Overpow! :)

Yeah..we got this..

NA LCS W7D2 Sun, March 2

Today's Matches:

1. Cloud 9 HyperX vs Team SoloMid
2. Evil Geniuses vs Dignitas
3. XDG vs Counter Logic Gaming
4. Curse vs Team Coast

The C9 / TSM game is definitely the headliner...but I'm also curious to see if XDG and Coast can continue their winning streaks. You realize...it's possible XDG could end this day NOT in last place...because they are now getting SheePR! Will CLG get fleeced? :P

After ewe...

Saturday, March 1, 2014

NA LCS W7D1 Sat, March 1

Today's Matches:

1. XDG vs Cloud 9 HyperX
2. Counter Logic Gaming vs Curse
3. Team Dignitas vs Team SoloMid
4. Team Coast vs Evil Geniuses

There's no reason to suspect the 3-11 XDG won't continue to hemorrhage in their match vs the far superior C9, and a C9 win will put a bit more heat on TSM to win their match vs Dignitas. A TSM win will also be good for CLG, who are trying to hold on to their third place spot.Their match vs Curse is somewhat of a toss-up - CLG have the stronger record but Curse has posted near identical stats to them in terms of KDA and gold gains. For the fourth game, I believe Evil Geniuses will ride their two game winning streak to a victory vs Coast, but I don't believe ZionSpartan and the boys will make it easy for them.

Also...I do think ZionSpartan will shut down Innox top..so there's that.. :P

EU LCS W7D2 Fri, February 28

Today's Matches:

1. Fnatic vs Gambit Gaming
2. Copenhagen Wolves vs Millenium
3. Alliance vs SK Gaming
4. Supa Hot Crew vs ROCCAT

Thursday, February 27, 2014

EU LCS W7D1 Thur, February 27

Today's Matches:

1. Alliance vs Fnatic

2. SK Gaming vs Supa Hot Crew
3. Millenium vs Gambit Gaming
4. ROCCAT vs Copenhagen Wolves

A lot of exciting battles today!

First up...can the struggling 7-7 Fnatic pull out out their bleak downward spiral? I believe this match is key to the Fnatic's mental health. A win will set them confidently back on course. A loss will crush their spirits. And Alliance has made it clear they'll no longer give an easy pass...which should make this an incredibly scary match.

Then we have SK vs Supa Hot Crew, who along with Fnatic are in a three-way tie for third place. The difference is, while Fnatic have lost two in a row, SK and SHC are both on winning streaks, and they are nearly neck and neck on stats. Should be an extremely close game!

Millenium's Kev1n and Creaton both have strong KDA's coming into this week match against Gambit, but they've yet to beat our Russian Overlords this split. They have, however, beaten Fnatic...proving they're more than capable of taking down top-rated teams. And as we all know...this has been the split of incredible, unexpected underdog wins.

And then there's ROCCAT...vs Wolves...which I can't even comment on because Overpow owns me. Like... completely owns me.. <3 Sorry. :P

Uh..yeah..these guys are not gonna budge an inch..

Gamers2 | A Beautiful Lie?

Former SK Gaming Captain Carlos 'Ocelote' Rodriguez throws his scarf back into the competitive scene with his new team, Gamers2. Announced this week with a cheesy dramatic *video meant to generate hype for his still unproven mates, Ocelote's clear desire is to return to the EU LCS. But are they any good?

The new team's line up includes Ocelote in Mid, Jesper 'Jwaow' Strandgren (Top,) Sebastian 'Morden' Fernandez (Jungle,) Soler 'Yuuki60' Florent (AD,) and Hugo 'Dioud' Padioleau (Support.) If you're familiar with Ocelote's former team, 'OceloteWorld,' you'll recognize this entire roster, save for the ditching of 'Haydal' in favor of Salade Tomate Oignon's 'Yuuki60.'

Ocelote's fledgling team does have a few things going for them. They've got strong sponsors already on-board (G2A.com and Ozone,) a mansion set up in Madrid to be their gaming house, and some interesting if not entirely innovative ideas. To quote their announcement, "Our mansion will be opened up to the community where they will be able to meet the players, play some paddle or basketball, have a BBQ and truly integrate and immerse themselves in the player lifestyle and get to know the team on a personal level like never before."

But across many forums today, fans and foes of the former SK mid-laner questioned if his team has any real chance of living up to their lofty LCS goals. And we're prompted to question, what is really going on with this seemingly pre-packaged package?

Ocelote has been very successful at marketing himself and he's no stranger to the idea of branding. To me, what he's put together here is more than just a team of LOL players - it's an attractive team of LOL players, because he's not just looking at competing here, he's looking at the future of eSports and its media potential, and he knows exactly what draws the media's eye. For anyone in the business who can see the explosion brewing, it's hard not to think this team is gambling on fandom much more than any true hopes of competing on the stage at Worlds.

Not that that stops Ocelote from dreaming.

There was a pro-wrestler back in the 80s named 'The Nature Boy' Ric Flair, who used to step into the ring wearing the long, gold satin robes trimmed at the sleeves with white feathers. He was a bad guy in pro-wrestling terms, hated for his ego and vanity, and he laughed all the way to the bank with this carefully cultivated act.

Sometimes I feel like Ocelote dances on that line, although he doesn't do it intentionally. But that only makes his act all the more bizarre. Truth be told, I actually like the flamboyant Ocelote, the same as thousands of other fans. He's a caricature of himself, but he's innocent and fun and his arrogance is born out of some reality. The man is beautiful. And he's hungry. And he believes in the future of eSports. And I can't fault him for any of those things.

Insane or Genius?
Carlos 'Ocelote' Rodriguez
